We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
- T.S. Eliot

Welcome to Ten Roads! This blog is intended to be a place for me to share my (generally Civil War-related) thoughts and experiences. I try to update once a week at the very least. All comments and readers are greatly appreciated!

I've come to a conclusion...

I absolutely despise all of the pointless sectarianism involved in academia, especially the study of the Civil War. It's gotten to the point where other people's opinions are annoying me, which is not something that happens typically and it bothers me. For this reason, I'm going to take a break from this for a short while, probably a few weeks. Besides, I will be busy with some freelance stuff and going back to school. I don't want to wind up hating what I actually love doing, you know?

Sarah,

Don't stop writing just because of the petty squabbles in academia. Don't bring yourself down by even getting involved in them. I blog specifically to escape them and so should you. Your writing should be a reflection of what interests YOU not us in the academy. If we like it, we will read it, if we don't we won't. I figure that if I lose some readers because they don't like what I put out, that I will gain one or two who do like it. While you should keep focused on your studies and projects, I do not get the feeling that your blog takes up much of your time. In any event, keep your head above the fighting in academia, as drowning in it is no fun. Trust me, I know.

Best wishes,

Daniel

Sarah,

I couldn't agree more with you. This partisan bickering about events which happened more nearly 150 years ago is annoying and pointless.
