I'm doing a research paper for my independent study honors English class on two of my favorite figures in history: Henry Clay and Abraham Lincoln.
Basically my thesis is going to be that Henry Clay deferred secession while Abraham Lincoln and his election acted as a catalyst. From my research, it doesn't seem that comparing Clay and Lincoln's similarities and exploring their different roles are done very often; I haven't been able to find anything really written on the subject.
Well, what do you think? Any words of wisdom, fun facts?
I'm really excited about this paper!
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
- T.S. Eliot
Welcome to Ten Roads! This blog is intended to be a place for me to share my (generally Civil War-related) thoughts and experiences. I try to update once a week at the very least. All comments and readers are greatly appreciated!

That sounds like a really good paper topic. You may want to keep that in your quiver for a college paper too.
There's a book called "The Great Triumvirate" about Clay, John C. Calhoun and Daniel Webster. I highly recommend checking that out as source material.
You may also want to check out Robert Remini's excellent biography of Henry Clay. You have a wonderful blog and from the perspective of a high school history it is wonderful to see a student blogging. Good luck with the paper.
